hi, i just made the switch and i couldnt be happier. the only thing i am missing is a program like nero vision that will allow me to make dvds of all my video files (wmv, mpeg, avi) i want to be able to create a menu and generate chapters. ive tried imovie, i dvd, toast 7, and dvd studio pro. none of these seem to support mpeg files (which most of my files are) ive tried ffmpegx and it seemed to work, but took quite a bit of time to convert the file and i feel that there has to be an easier and faster way to do this. any help would be appreciated
    thanks

Toast 7 supports MPEG and AVI files. I don't think you can convert wmv, however.

once you drop the video into the video tab, click edit.
Make sure you are in the video portion of the tab, and you can see you can then add chapters automatically with pull down menu to set auto time chapter marks

    Picture example is provided

woah, its way to late... you said chapter menu's, not chapters

cut your mpeg up and you will get menu's for each mpeg. but there is the easy way to put chapters in just incase you needed it

Toast uses existing chapter markers that are in MPEGs extracted from DVDs. When none are present it generally adds markers every 5 minutes. There is an option for Toast to display a chapter menu.

However, what you seem to be looking for is the option to place chapter markers in an MPEG video. This can be done with CaptyDVD2 which is sold for $70 at pixela-1.com. There is a review of CaptyDVD2 at www.bobhudson.com.

this window never shows up on my mpegs, and it seems every bit of video i have is an mpeg. im kind of confused, it seems to me that mpeg is the file type that most people end up using yet its so hard to get this simple function to work.

If you used DVD Studio Pro and it rejected your MPEG files, as it is professional grade DVD authoring software, then your MPEG files are bad or not to DVD specs. Convert your files to correct DVD-compliant video specs before attempting to author a DVD.

I suggest you avoid all-in-one junk, of which Nerovision certainly was. You have a Mac, you have DVD Studio Pro, you should be in authoring heaven right now.

This is the only reason I want to get a Mac right now, I hope to get a mini in the future.

Use the "Help" menu from within the app and you can search for the answer there. Virtually the entire manual is there.
    -or-
Select Preferences from the app menu and change it there.
    -or-
In ~/Library/Preferences/ toss the app's ".plist"
    ("~"=your Home folder)

And DVD Studio Pro requires ELEMENTARY STREAMS! Use MPEG Streamclip for demuxing.

Most PC MPEG-2 encoders are sub-standard, they don't do valid MPEG-2 streams.
