I want to clean install the restore CD(XP-SP1) but with slipstreamed SP2. Can I possibly slipstream a restore CD? Thanks.

It might be possible, but the way some restore discs are set up with multiple CDs, I don't think it would be worth the effort. SP2 is mostly additions to SP1. It also includes everything that's in SP1.

It's not really that big of deal to install SP2 after SP1 is installed. It will just add/modify what is needed for the upgrade.

I tried it with a compaq and it failed. Never tried it with Dells after this. I've found with proprietary discs it's better and easier to just install SP2 after using the restore disc(s).

Yeah, maybe it's not that big deal if I upgrade to SP2 after the restore CD installation. I read much about people having problems after the upgrade, but in my case, I can check immediately what it broke. I have a separate CD of the drivers anyway so I'm probably okay. A slipstreamed XP -SP2 worked perfectly in my son's PC. Thanks, guys.

You could try slipstreaming with the restore disc. I'd be curious as to the results on a dell. What's the worst that could happen? You lose your operating system environment and have to restore and install SP2 separately.
