i don't know if this is the right topic to post in, but i don't know what other topic to post in so if i post it in wrong.. i'm very sorry about it!

my problem is that i have a digital CANON S-500 5.0 MEGA PIXELS. when i capture video, it works really fine, but the problem comes is when i try to put it in my computer. it loads it in really find, but when i try to play it with Winamo or Windows Media Player, it wouldn'y play anything.

when it loads into my computer, the format is in AVI and there's also another file with it that labels THM. i have no idea what THM is. should i change the setting in my camera? or what should i do because i have some videos that i took at graduation and i really wanna burn it out on a CD. please help! thanks in advance!!

What does the canon.com site say? Or the manual that came with the camera?

Taking a stab in the dark, I'd say it was some form of MPEG-4 video (which uses an AVI wrapper).

So this used to work, but now it doesn't?
If that's the case, this changes everything.

Well, now we look at codecs on the computer being missing or corrupt.

What is "it" ? Unless I missed something you were discussing files that didn't work on your comp.

Is it just that one video file that doesn't work? or do none of the videos work anymore?

Just because one AVI works doesn't mean that the codecs aren't screwed up. AVI is just a wrapper file that can contain many types of video. If the codecs required to play that particualr type of AVI have been corrupted or otherwise screwed up then you'll experience playback issues.

Get Gspot, that will identify the codec required. If you have recently installed any codec packs or other video software that is probably what has caused the problem.

A quick piece of advice, when someone offers you advice here don't go "that's not it".... unless you know for a fact that it isn't.

the codec seems to work fine because al other files like rm, mpg, and avi seems to work fine except this one. and not that it have avi only, but there's also another video with it .. same title and evrything except in different format... THM.

I have a similar camera, Canon S1 IS. The codec required is Mjpeg. This should fix the problem. Cheers -garman
