  1. Hi all -

I have a few movies that span two DVDs and would like to convert them to single DivX files. Godfather Part II, Gangs Of NY, Schindlers List, etc. I have a workflow set up, but am (for soon-to-be obvious reasons) very interested in finding a better solution Any suggestions? Here's my workflow:

    1. Rip VOBs using DVD Decrypter
    2. Convert VOBs to AVI segments using DVD2AVI (also saves audio in WAV format in this step)
    3. Convert individual AVI segments to MPEG-2 using TMPGENC
    4. Merge MPEG-2 video segments using TMPGENC
    5. Mux audio with new complete MPEG-2 file with WAV audio
(after having done all of the above to each disc....)
    6. Merge MPEG-2 file from first disc to MPEG-2 file from second disc
    7. Run newly created complete MPEG-2 file through AutoGK to produce single DivX file

Obviously this is profoundly time-consuming, but it works. Any more efficient methods out there?

    thanks -

    you could also
    1. rip first dvd
    2. autogk dvd to divx
    3. rip second dvd
    4. autogk dvd to divx (use exact same divx and audio settings as the first dvd)
    5. join both divxs with virtualdubmod.

  3. very cool, thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a lot less hands-on work.

Question though - how important is it to make sure I give each disc the exact same specs when running them thru AutoGk? Seems to me that if one file has slightly different bitrate etc than the other, maybe virtualDubMod may not want to merge them. Any thoughts?

  4. Ok, I have Gangs Of NY discs 1 and 2 ripped and ready for AutoGK. Can someone please tell me how I ensure that each conversion utilizes the exact same bitrates for video?? The options AutoGK gives me only address either CD size, Quality %, or custom MB. I have Ctrl-F9'd to bring up hidden settings but I am not seeing an option to precisely set the bitrate. Can someone help?

    Thanks in advance!
