    I notice that CDEX is a free software available on this site for ripping CDs into mp3. My question is, I thought some CDs had a type of encryption that required special software to rip. Then, can CDEX rip every kind (all) CDs?

    The type of copy-protection that most CD's use is easily defeated by holding the SHIFT key or disabling autorun.Some scratched CD's may be more difficult to rip but IsoBuster will handle those,you might also try 'Paranoia,Full':
