Hello,
I apologize if this is the wrong place for this question.
This is all hypathetical.
1. dvd is shrek 2
problem some parts not appropriate for children.
How do I edit out the bad parts and create a working dvd.
I imagine
rip vob's using dvd shrink
convert to mpeg or avi using tmpgenc.
use some movie editing software such as moviemaker save the file as dv-avi for higher quality.
then use nero to author and burn which probably transcodes back
to mpeg2 format.
worried about loss of quality.
There shouldnt be a loss of quality should there?
ANY IDEAS or help
is welcomed
Please correct me if any steps above are wrong or there is a better way to edit and get better quality.
Thanks
TJ

Everything except for the Nero for authoring part. You'd better with a dedicated authoring program to recreate your Fixed DVD. You can use NERO to burn your final DVD files to DVD.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
I've used MPEGVCR to edit the mpg file, i.e., to edit/cut out parts, and then save out a whole new edited mpg file. I've not yet run into any audio/video sync issues.. but know others have. There's also VideoRedo..
And then author with whatever app you want. I use DVDWorkshop 2.
Edit: Btw, just noticed you have multiple postings of your msg.. that's a no-no, per forum rules. -

This is what I would do I cut out scenes ... no reencoding required and therefore you maintain the original quality
(1) Rip the DVD with DVDDecrypter
(2) Open the ripped DVD in TDA (free 30-day trial available) ... however if you don't purchase the ac3 plugin you won't be able to hear the audio ... but it will (should be there) when you reauthor
(3) Edit out (cut out) the scenes you object too
(4) Reauthor ... -
Can I ask a question from you mpeg editing experts? When these mpeg cuts are made, is the ac3 audio also edited? If so, that's way cool.

OK, I'll be the egghead here, but isn't Shrek a kids flick?
TDA or Shrink should do it all for you, anyway. If you want precise cuts, then VideoReDo is a nice friendly program to use (doesn't cost much). Yes, video & audio (incl. ac3) is cut & joined.
But this is all a silly "hypathetical" scenario to post, I must say. The solution (mpeg editing) is easily found here by a quick search. Sometimes I think these "questions" (which seem to pop up regularly) are planted deliberately. I have no idea why, other than to stir the boat.
