Considering some of the recent activity, I though that an additiona listing--maybe as part of the Videohelp News section or something, would be good for notifying the general membership of new arrivals ("welcome", etc) and new departures ("sorry to see you go", "good riddance", etc)
Just a thought...

I think that it would be nice, but just as a stat. Kind of like how it shows the "joined" date.
Maybe in the profile, after a ban, it shhows "banned date", with a link to the "final straw".
To be quite honest, there's not a whole hell of a lot of people who care one way or the other, in terms of the sheer number of people here. If people have friends who come or go, they can PM or email that person. If they don't have even an email, then it ain't worth it anyway. -
good suggestion but isn't there 1500 new members who join in a month? Most depatures I've seen in recent times never really depart as most come back as this place is too good to stay away from 8)
As Supreme mentioned most don't really care and if you do and someone is banned then you can normally contact them another way if you already haven't got other contact info
I've been here a while now and given quite a lot of input but it's suffered this year so I'm leaving. See you all it's been good but I guess I serve no purpose to the forums any more
cheers 8) -
wow!
I'm back again but that was a long time and it was lonely. I didn't like it while I'd left as I was bored and missed you guys so I came back as I just know you all missed me just as much 8)
it's great to be back and thanks for all the support you showed me -
lol......great post....you were missed while you were gone though....so don't ever leave again...

I think that asking why a person is banned is better left to private messages with a mod.
Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

There might be 1500 joining a month, but quite a few of these are not stayers and just want the couple of questions they have answered, without sticking around to then give back. Not that there's anything wrong with that; just the way it is. Or there's people that just want to get into OT so they need to register. For these reasons, I think a Welcome page is not required, as it's too much wasted work IMHO.
OTOH, "forced" bannings can be quite informational, and serve as real-time examples to all of the implementation of The Rules of the forum. I dunno about PM-ing a mod - how many times do you wish to repeat yourself ?
And how can you PM the member in question if they're banned ?
What about a field in their profiles, stating the reason they got banned ?If in doubt, Google it. -

Some bans are complicated. Suffice to say they died with their boots on -

I know. Have a forum jail. Mods move the person to jail where he/she can't post outside of for the term of the sentence. Others can still visit & chat during visiting hours. Major offenders get sent to solitary where they can only lurk.

In this instance, I have to agree with Lordsmurf.
While I think most folks here have their hearts in the right place, I wouldn't want anyone to come out of this thinking they were wrongly marked - or mislabeled.
My opinion, I would think it best to drop this issue.
But that's just me.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -

Besides that, continuing this idea, although a lot of fun for me, would probably cause Cornucopia's thread to be moved to OT and me deemed a threadjacker 8)
btw) On subject here, as stated by offline in another thread, if problem threads are locked but mostly remain available to the membership at large then that should solve the issue raised here.
