A lot of people on this forum have the AVT-8710 TBC due to the low price (only $190 USD at B&H PHOTO VIDEO)

Most seem to like it although there has been some negative comments about it here or there.

The same however can be said of the DataVideo TBC-1000 (goes for around $300 USD) as I have heard mostly good things about it but also the odd negative comments.

Those are the two Full Frame TBC devices that get the most talk around here ... probably due to the face that the price is low making them somewhat affordable to us hobby types.

    ricky d -

The tvone units look quite nice.
The SONY on EBay is not a TBC; its a wired remote control for a TBC.

Thanks for the feedback. FulciLives, I'm not sure why you made coments on those 2 other TBCs? There are plenty of threads on those 2 devices. I own 1 of them (DV 1000), but was curious about the other 3 models that I know nothing about. I appreciate the feedback never the less. Interesting to know that the sony was just a remote and not an actual TBC device.

1 more question that really scratches my head though. Lordsmurf can answer this, and possibly davideck. How in the hell did you figure that the Panasonic ES10 could be used as a pass through video filter for fixing certain video (VHS) issues? I mean was this purely coincidental, or do you scan / look for hardware that has certain video filters built in? I know it's not a TBC, but it can function somewhat similarly as a video stabilizer. Just dont know how you came about this and what other DVDR's / devices have the similar abilities..

I checked Panasonic's site and the ES20 is out now, the newer model. I assume it has the same video filter package (according to the site it does) and for 20 bucks more, a decent amount of new feautres. Seems to me that Panasonic, or someone else could build a little stand alone unit that could do the same thing without having to construct a whole DVDR box...

Since you were asking about other models I didn't know if you knew about the other two ... the two everyone seems to talk about ... so I thought I would bring it up.

    That's all.

Guess I am used to talking to newbies all the time it seems

Well - I'm an expierenced video editor, but new to this forum (I really enjoy and appreciate this site). I have been reading through 100s of the threads / posts and I think I finally realize that their is NO standard in TBC devices. While they may do the same thing, each one is different in its own way. While I own the DV 1000, it does not work "best" on all media. I now understand its a good idea to have 2 or 3 different TBCs, that's why I was asking about the other models. I'd like to have a nice alternate to switch out, when the DV 1000 does not do the trick...

The Edirol VMC-1 would be very nice to try out, but's its damn expsensive, and I dont need the proc-amp and other features. However, it would be interesting to go firewire in / proc-amp / firewire out for a change...

When I test video equipment and software, I run a battery of tests, and I'm just brutal about it. I have a tape that is severely damaged by this sort of noise, and I like to use it for testing equiment, mostly because I had always dreamed of fixing it. It's a rather rare film and the tape creation was rather poorly done, hence the flaws. I have a number of tapes with various flaws that I use to test out filters.

I can understand that, I was just questioning how you came across that HW to begin with. Like do you buy a ton of HW, test it out, and return what you don't like - or did you read about the device somewhere? I just thought it was strange to figure out to use a DVDR as a video filter. Makes me wonder what other "hidden" HW devices are out there that can do similar feats...

BTW - I looked at your computer profile - I'm very suprised that you can capture full frame .avi files with the ATI AIW card.. My 2nd PC is a AMD 1.7 (with the AIW)and it drops frames like a mofo using various codecs (various settings) within the .avi file container. I know all about "priming" your PC so it won't drop frames and it does it anyway.. MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV no problems at all. I'm guessing I need to update the hard drives, I bet they are the bottleneck within my system.. I am wondering what types yours are...

AMD has known issues with capturing. ATI cards especially. This is why many people suggest Intel for video. It just seems more stable. AMD motherboards also leave much to be desired.

Panasonic was new, it was on sale, it was available locally, and I'd not tested anything in a while. Plus I kept hearing all the marketing hoopla about how great of a machine it was supposed to be. Of course, the marketing was all just BS, but the machine's ability to curb tearing/flagging, as well as motion within the frame, was it's saving grace, and why it earned a place on my desk. Essentially, it was just luck I found it.

Yeah, the only issue I knew about with AMD & the AIW, was the audio Problem(s) with the realtek chipsets (not to mention with the SB Lives) . Other than that I did not know their were "known" issues, other than with AMD "you get what you pay for"...

AMD + ATI = lots of random errors that not everybody is "lucky" enough to see

I don't bother to kep track of them all. It ranges from schedules, to MMC, to audio, to pretty much anything you can think of.

Honestly, the crap AMD motherboards are usually to blame, VIA chipsets and other junk.
