Would anyone be willing to share the settings they use with ffmpegx? I'm really curious what others are using. I've found some very high quality xvids recently with also very small size and am wondering how this was done. I seem to get very poor xvid results.

if you wan't a high quality Xvid movie, you just have to turn on some options that improve quality...
i recommend compressing with Xvid-mencoder
the most important option is probably "two pass encoding" in the options menu
then there are some more things, like "High Quality", "Trellis Quantization", "Quarter pixel ME"
and change the scaling method to bilinear
all these options are in the options-tab
if you want to encode a DVD, i would create a video_TS folder and encode this one. and if you have black bars, crop the image
in the end it takes a LOT longer to encode, but it's definitly worth it...

That really helps! I can't seem to get ffmpegx to let me choose what part of the video_ts to encode tho. Usually I use a VOB. Is this the same thing?
Thanks!

when encoding from video_TS-folder, you can choose the title (parts) and chapters in the video-tab.
and if you have a VOB file you have the same codec as in the video_TS-folder, but without information about the language, subtitles etc. and i think the video_TS is a bit better for encoding, but i don't know details.
but it works just fine with VOB-files as well
