A few simple questions as i finally deceided to try out V.1.5.2:
#1-Which is better most of the time:Variable or constant?(not going to bother with selective)
#2-And which was the very first compression engine DVD2One used with older versions, like ver.1.1.3? I think it was variable compression first, with Constant compression being added later on, but not sure...

#1 - the source will have a lot to do with that and what the bitrateis like throughout the DVD. If you use constant on places that have high and low bitrates then it may affect the quality. Whereas variable will take from the higher parts (hopefully) and leave the already low bitrate parts
I always think of constant being constant bitrate and variable is variable bitrate. Just in case other's don't know this is from another site
Don't confuse CBR and VBR as you understand it from an MPEG encoder. This is not the same thing. All that DVD2One is doing is compressing what's already been decided as appropriate by the studio's own encoder (and is almost invariably VBR). In the DVD2One sense, variable means that it compresses some parts more than others, whereas constant applies the same compression uniformly. Where constant has been used the bitrate chart or trace looks identical to the original, but is lower on the Y axis. This is not the case with variable. -
Thanks.
Variable compression then. Judgeing from what i've heard both here and at a bunch of other places, its just seems the best overall choice most of the time.
As for my other question,i'm almost sure that Variable compression came first, with DVD2One makers adding constant compression later on.
