    Hi guys

Does anyone have any problems handling ogm video files?
Sometimes in my PC (and others I have access to) an ogm file can close all my programs and reset windows to it's initial state if I just click over the file.

And the player (bsplayer) can also hang at any time I'm viewing such files. Is there a better/newer version of the ogm filter than the one indexed in the tools section? That one is quite old and is the one that gives me so many problems.

Sometimes mkv (matroska video) files also give me some trouble, but not nearly as much as ogm ones.

Do you think it has to do with the "pre-read" windows does on the file to get info on it? But that wouldn't explain the player locking up later...

I'm asking this 'cause it is really annoing! It's hell to rename, move and even watch my ogm files. Often I have to go through the trouble of renaming the ogm to something else, like txt, to do the basic moving/renaming tasks.

    Thanks for the help!

If you have trouble moving/renaming then it definatly sounds like MS's buggy thumbnail shell extension.

Problem with ogm is that it was created by just one person (Tobias) and since he stopped development several years ago basically nothing further has been done. Most people are still using Tobias' original dshow filters which are now several years old.

There are however some alternatives, such as corevorbis or ffdshowfor decoding the audio if it happens to be vorbis, gabest's ogm splitter, Radlight's ogm/ogg filters or illuminable's ogg filters (only supports vorbis streams, no subtitle support).

There was also a release based on Tobias' sources (0.9.9.6?) however it was based on older sources since Tobias lost his sources for his last release (0.9.9.5?).

  3. Best solution for handling OGM files is converting them to MKV files with mkvmerge/mmg.exe from the MKVtoolnix package, or amg (avi-mux GUI) ....
