i have a large 38 inch wide screen flat pannel lcd screen as my primary monitor. some of my video files play full screen while others have big black pillars on the size. i was wondering if there was a way to play all my video files back using the whole screen. im connecting it with the vga input.

If the video is encoded in 4:3 aspect ratio then no, not without sacrificing part of the video or having it wildly distorted.

gadgetguy is correct. If you don't mind this, however, check the owners manual for your TV. It probably has different display modes. ie: "stretch," "non-linear," etc.
