  1. Hi,

An online reseller (discsonline.se) is selling 'Mitsubishi' discs with media code MCC 003 which they say is A-grade and they sell it cheaply on a spindle for 30euro per 100 DVD+R (4,37Gb). They also sell printable and fullface printable of the same disc for a bit more money but still cheap. I don't know if the discs are branded Mitsubishi or if it is the media code that makes them label the disc as Mitsubishi. I find no reference to the reseller on this site so I cannot judge if it is a spooky place to buy my discs (I have not bought discs online before).

I understand from doing the online research that MCC is generally considered an a-grade media code, but when I search for it here on the site I get hits from so many brand names I have never heard of and of course the discs I am contemplating are possiblt not branded at all.

So my questionis this: Is the media code MCCxxx generally a good buy *even if* the branding is uncommon or maybe even noname. Or is the MCC code subject to many fakes or something so that I should better buy MCC only when it comes from known brands?

Is it possible to answer this question?

    Thanks all!

    /p

  2. Be careful!
Personally I use Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD+R's (Super AZO) with the "MCC 003" lead in code and I can totally recommend them.

Edit: They are silver topped and Made In Taiwan

If it is true MCC made recordable DVDs with Mitsubishi's "methods and materials", then it should be fine. But beware, MCC has been reported to have been faked by InfoSmart of Hong Kong.

Remember, if you shop smart, ALL (good and bad alike) recordable DVD media is cheap (HQ stuff is less than $0.45/each). I wouldn't risk buying anything but known to be 1st class brandname material/media IDs from reliable sources.

FWIW, I am partial to Verbatim DataLifePlus and Taiyo-Yudens.

MCC really doesn't sell "no-name" discs. They tend to use Verbatim or Prodisc solely for their outlets. Anything "no-name", especially in Europe, is likely fake and not very good at that.

  5. Allrightie... yeah, maybe it's too good to be true... (actually I just saw a posting in a forum saying that there were a lot of MCC003 fakes discovered in Europe mid-2005).

It's typical that it is so hard to find a reseller in the UK who ships to Sweden for anything less than 25 euro... (haven't found any quality disc sites on the continent) otherwise I could buy Verbatim MCC004 for the same price as the probably fake 'Mitsubishi' discs... and in Sweden they just passed a law which means an extra tax add-on to make cheap discs here cost around 35 euros for 50 noname DVD-R on a spindle. That's kinda outrageous...

Thanks for your help and comments!

MCC is very good media, if it's real. Unfortunately Mitsubishi is one of the favorite targets for the media counterfeiters. Buy from a known reseller that you know you can trust. It the price is too good to be true, that's an alarm flag. An FYI; Verbatim is owned by Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi subs out a lot of their manufacturing to Prodisc. Prodisc is capable of making very good media. Mitsubishi assures this by keeping a close eye on their quality with on site QC personnel.

  7. Another question:

Some people post in forums saying that 'Verbatim on a spindle' is crap and cheap (as in not good quality) and that only Verbatim packed individually in jewelboxes are the Verbatims that have the a-grade quality.

Is there any truth in this?

    Thanks!

Verbatim in spindles is just as good as that in jewel cases.

Have a look here - http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/dvd-rnoprint.html scroll down the page a bit and look for these - {DV 3309} Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) 8x DVD-R in Spindle Tubs of 25. Fantastic discs and pretty cheap, and they ship to Sweden

  10. Steve, that is really a good price!! Only that this particular shop wants 28euro for the shipping to Sweden. 100discs=69euros.

That's still a good price I guess, but I can get 100 Verbatim MCC004 16x Advanced AZO made in Taiwan for 61 euros.

UK to Sweden is in the same category as Greece and Portugal, the rest of Europe gets away cheaper. I don't know why but it is always expensive to mail things to sweden (as if things weren't expensive enough here as it is!).

Am I too cheapish about this? Is Taiyo Yuden really *that* much better? (since I originally was contemplating the Mitsubishi discs for 47 euros, I get a feeling I am just going higher and higher in price all the time as this research progresses and soon I might just go down to the high street and get my discs there...)
