I was wondering if my friend who has a Tivo who recorded the White Sox post season, could transfer what he recorded to his Tivo on a DVR pioneer recorder? If so can anyone explain to me the process and/or send me a link describing how to do the set up. Thanks.

All you ..........eeerrrr......I meant your "buudy" has to do is connect rca or s-video cables from TiVo to the recorder and record away. Obviously, all you..............there I go again,...........your buddy has to do is synch up the play button on the TiVo and the record button on the recorder.

Sorry for the stupid question, wasnt sure if Tivo blocked you from recording onto a DVR or VCR. Like if there was a security feature or something

no problemo, dude. TiVo doesnt use any encryption on the videos that you record.

  5. In Fact Tivo (stand alone model anyway) has a save to vcr feature that displays the information on the title that Tivo saved for a brief period so it can be recorded ahead of the video.

  6. I don't know about the copy protection thing? I have this station that I tape on a lot -- most of the time. Let's call it Ch. 3. It's a basic cable station. The station has a weak signal or some problem with it. It sends out an interference signal every few seconds. Well, Tivo use to ignore that interference signal that only that station has and taped the shows but not anymore. For the past few weeks if you start taping and it sees that interference from the station it thinks it's some sort of copy protection or something and stops taping. From the time I got it until a few weeks ago it ignored that problem and kept on taping now it just shuts off as soon as it sees that signal problem. So, now instead of getting the full hour, two or three, etc. I only get 2 minutes, 9 minutes, etc. When ever the cable company sends out that week interference signal and Tivo sees it, it stops. I think Tivo has been updating it's software and maybe is putting in some sort of copy protection thing. I mean, how else was a machine that ignored the same signal problem for over a year now, for the past few weeks, sees it and stops the recording? The signal problem hasn't changed. I think Tivo is doing something with their software updates.

What I hate is that I can't tape on that station anymore. It's basic cable station and it can't be taped! Come on. It's like if you love to tape games on ESPN and you taped a lot of games and Sportscenter for over a year but now you only get 2 minutes of a game. I wish there was some way around it but I don't think so.

  7. A lot of programs broadcast today carry a form of copy protection that will allow a copy , copy once only etc. or not allow. Most tivo will allow such a program to be copied to the HDD but not the DVD. I don't know if this program caries such a flag.
The Pioneer is a very good machine but is compliant and also has problems dealing with a week signal and will give the type of problems discribed when encountering such.

    Check the fourms

  8. Bridge: I wonder if putting a TBC between a separate tuner and the Tivo would keep it recording> You are correct in that the Tivo s/w now recognizes certain flags as I recall it, More info over at

  9. I don't know? Right now I'm running a RF connector from the cable line into the Tivo so that I can tape some shows with the cable box and some other shows on the Tivo box. I tried running a line from a VCR into the RCA jacks of the Tivo but when the interference came Tivo saw it and stopped recording. I then tried a Sigma (sp) box from a VCR into the Tivo S-Video. Problem is that I have to spend a 1/2 hour getting Tivo to re-set up from an RF connector to an S-Video connector. Plus, I loose all of my stations. The Tivo is then relying on the cable box's stations. So I can't tape different stations. I have to tape only what the cable box puts out. You know what I mean? Right now I can tape say Leno on a VCR from the cable box and at the same time tape Letterman on the Tivo box. I'm using Tivo basic. With Tivo basic they shut off the S-Video and some other connectors when you plug into the RF connector like I do. In order to use the Tivo S-Video input and the Sigma (sp) I have to let Tivo think the input is coming from an S-Video line or Cable box and not a RF connector not attached to a cable box. Very confusing. Point is, if I try some sort of video blocker or anything I can't tape the way I wanted to. I have to rely on the cable box and loose the independence of taping two stations at the same time.

I did see a picture when I plugged into the S-video but as soon as I tried to tape the Tivo got the blue screen and said that it isn't receiving a signal.

I need to figure out some way to run the cable line's RF connector (with out a cable box), into something that will break what ever Tivo sees as being protected, and then have it output in an RF connection format. Then I would plug that RF connector into the back of the RF connector of the Tivo so I that I can still have that indepenence of being able to tape two shows at the same time.

  10. By the way, to answer Razortceps question. I taped some of the World Series and it taped just fine on the Tivo. So, as far as I know that show isn't protected and can be Tivoed and transfered over.
