I'm a newbie at DVD Studio Pro 4 and have been authoring some of my own DVDs.

Problem 1: I have one single video file (M2V/AC3) composed of several trailers. When I pick a trailer on the menu, it continues on to the end of the entire video file. I would like it to stop at the end of trailer and return to the menu.

Do I have to cut the video into separate clips manually or is there a more efficient way? I'm not really versed in DVDSP scripts yet.

Problem 2: My DVD has a main menu and a chapters menu. When I play a chapter and then press Menu to return, it goes back to the main menu. How do I set it up to return to the chapters menu?

Sorry if this stuff is elementary, but I've Googled a lot and have not found much online help, except for books.

First of all then, welcome to our corner of the world.

You must set in the Menu Editor pallette, what you want the track to do.
Select the trailer video track, and in the info bar, set the end jump to
the main menu. It will now play and then return to the main menu
    upon completion.

    see above.
for the record, you don't have to cut. You could use Chapter Markers to
get around within a track though..

Again, the Menu Editor pallette is your friend. Select the
second menu ( Chapter Menu), and with the info pallette open, you can select the second tab, (menu) and then set the menu options for
when a user presses the Menu button, the Title button, etc.,
making it Menu specific NOT disc specific.

I HIGHLY reccommend you get Martin Sitter's DVD STUDIO PRO VQS
which will help you learn the "little things" a lot faster.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll try those things and I'll also look into that book, as I am interested in authoring more advanced DVDs.

Problem 1: The easiest way to handle this is with a "Story."
A Story is a copy of the timeline that allows you to change actions at the chapter marks. In essence, you have a Play All button on your main menu that plays the track, and all the buttons in the chapter menu call the Story references where you have different chapter mark end jumps that return to the Chapter menu. It's all pretty well explained in the DVDSP Help files. Just make sure you understand and pay attention to targets and end jumps. No scripting is necessary.

Problem 2: Using the Menu button on the remote is usually a desperation move, so it defaults to the main menu. It may be possible to change this in the control section for changing remote functions (I don't know this as fact, I've never tried it) but your problem will largely disappear if the Chapters section works as planned, right?

Let us know ho it goes.

TerryJ, the End Jump option you mentioned sounded familiar, but for the life of me, I couldn't find it again. I was clicking on the Menu viewer chapter buttons and I wasn't seeing any option for "End Jump." I was only getting options to edit the buttons themselves.

I clicked on a chapter marker in the Track menu and it opened a "Marker" menu in the Menu Editor with the tabs, "General," and "User Operations." The End Jump option was under General and there I was able to set the End Jump to go to the button below it in the list when the selected trailer finished playing. At the bottom of the General tab menu, there was a Remote Control section which let me set where the Menu button would take me.

Oh, the lingo is driving me batty (excuse me if I mixed up the terms). At least now I know what to do.

RatVega, I didn't use the Story suggestion since the other way worked, but I will play around with it. My Story menus are all empty, so I assume I am not using it already.

    Thanks again for the replies!

    sorry for any confusion.

But yes, this is where you will look for the editable settings for
    tracks, chapters, and stories.
