It seems about 1 out of 100 back ups I make will be different and I cannot figure it out. Usually they will play in the top drawer of the computer (dvd r) drive and in the Toshiba dvd player but not in the Sony dvd player, but then I will get the 1 that will only play in the bottom dvd rw drawer of the computer, and on the Sony but not the Toshiba.
Everything is the same, Shrink and Nero for all of them so I do not know what is making some different, any ideas? Thanks

How about varying quality of the media? This can happen even within a cakebox of DVDs. Try a different brand if you can can and reburn the backup that was problematic. If everything else was equal, that would be my guess.

Also, when you say they don't play, how? What symptoms do they exhibit?

99% success rate with DVD-R seems damned good to me!

As far as not playing the Sony will do nothing, just like there is no disc in the tray and the Toshiba will say error.
The DVD+R's are Fuji made in Japan and Ritek those are the only two brands that I have used and had one of each only work on the Sony, and they were made about 5 months apart so I cannot see a pattern of what is causing it. Thanks

Have you updated Nero at any time?
I recall Nero changing the lead in/out write to some form of "short lead in/out"
after that my Sony could not read the discs. I went back to the previous version, and that solved the problem. I had thought this was fixed in a later version, I just never bothered to upgrade again.

Can you try another burning tool to confirm?

Your faith in Nero is admirable. Even if it was fixed in some version, the chance for it reappearing in a yet later version is about on par with the Earth being round...

No I have not updated anything, still using the same two programs from day one, some I had to use dvd43 or anydvd but those are in the majority of only working on the Toshiba.

I do agree Mats, I was quietly suggesting the trying of another burner.....
The combination of PgcEdit and ImgBurn can not be ruled out for a start. Great work by great authors!:P
