Ok so i'm building this computer as most of you know who have helped me in the past. I go to install the LAN and MOBO drivers that came w/ the MOBO and I get this not passing Windows Logo testing message telling me not to install them.
So I asked you guys about it and was told that those are to be used as a last resort and that I need to download these files from the Asus website.
Redwudz was nice enough to make me a cd w/ these files(since I am on dialup and this would be a very long DL for me). So I got the cd, i'm installing the LAN drivers that he put on the cd(which came from the Asus website) and I get the same message. I copied it exactly and here is what it says:
"Software has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongy recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the software vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."
So what is the deal?!? Must I get these files from the vendor specifically...seems a bit ridiculous to me. I don't want to risk installing these files and screwing up the system(again) and having to repartition/reformat after i've installed all these great files he sent me.
Please help, i'm becoming very frustrated at this point.
Thanks guys!

bah. i dont even read what that screen says anymore. i just "continue anyways"....like you said, worst case you'll have to re partition it :/

The thing is, I think that's what was screwing up my computer before when I did install them from the discs that came w/ the MOBO. I had problems w/ it locking up.
Especially now I want to avoid repartitioning and reformatting because I have installed a large amount of files and DL'd updates for some things.
I'm not sure if I should risk it and install them from the CD or just not install them at all or what.. -
just as GLOCKJS said...I dont even read that crap either
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
One thing you could do is just let Windows XP install it's own drivers for the NIC and MOBO initially (assuming were talking about standard vanilla components).
I did that with a pair of Asus A7V400-MX boards, and they worked fine.
After that, I then went to the vendors' sites to get the specific drivers.
I find that Asus is rather slow (sometimes several months) in updating the drivers on their site, so I go directly to the vendor sites. -
this is just a warning screen you get with any drivers that haven't specifically passed windows testing. but honestly, if the drivers are coming from the manufacturer, chances are they're your best bet.
I am just a worthless liar,
I am just an imbecil -
This is nothing to worry about. All it means is that Microsoft weren't able to test that particular set of drivers with XP during their testing program. If they were able to, you'd probably find that the drivers would be contained within the XP install.
I get it all the time and it's never caused a problem by continuing anyway across 100+ machines I've had that error on. If you were getting lockups, I'd suggest it's probably more a hardware component failing that dodgy drivers. The CD that came with the component should always contain the right drivers (although I have seen a couple that have been buggy). Certainly any drivers you download from the manufacturer's website should be good to go (but again with the same caveat). If in doubt, Google it. -
Or spend the time on the modem to download a newer version of your drivers.
