I have had no problem at all up till now - but I have this one DVD that just keeps "skipping" over small parts during playback - this has happened on the factory made disc, and a copy of it.
First thought was that there must be something wrong with the original disc - but two other copies of the factory made disc were tried and both of them did the EXACT same thing in EXACTLY the same place (I would say the odds of 3 different discs all having the exact same damage in the exact same place is extremely slim!!).
I have also tried 4 different players, still the same thing!!!
BUT play the same disc using the DVD drive on my computer (using PowerDVD) and it works fine.....
What the h*%! is going on! And what do I need to do for this disc to play properly on a stand-alone player? If it's just a case of a not so great player, what make/models will do?
Any ideas at all?

Computers are generally more tolerant of errors than settop players. It just sounds like a bad original disc or at least one that is out of spec.
Or it may be a case of copy protection that was poorly implemented. Do a Google search for that disc along with the word 'errors' and see if anything comes up. Disc manufactures do make mistakes. -
Well, I find no reported errors on this disc - more-over this is a TV series disc - specifically "Star Trek The Next Generation, Season 6, Disc 1" As per forum rules, I am not really concerned with the copy of it, only why not even the original (3 different copies of it - all copies I am talking about here are factory discs) and just to see what would happen, I played that disc (the factory one) farther, and eventually it got to a point where it jammed compleatly! (total stop, could not even skip to next "chapter", fast-reverse, or fast froward (all three copies but on the same player this time) but again no prob on the computer player, THe entire series up to that point fine... Poor attempt at copy-protection, I could see, but not changing there method in the middle of a series!
Farther, those "bad" spots, just to see what would happen, converted to a VCD, the VCD played fine,,,
But why won't the original play, when all others in that series have....
As for the copy I real want to make - well if the "master" won't work right, a duplicate sure won't, and I don't really wish to re-encode the whole thing because I don't want to loose the factory menus.

It's been known for a whole batch of discs to be corrupt, so you've probably just been unlucky enough to get one from that batch. I had a 'Dawn of the Dead' disc a couple of years ago that just refused to play on anything, so I took it back and they exchanged it for another, which did the same! Back to the shop for a third disc and, et voila! Problem sorted. -
Got it FINALLY!
Looks like it really was a case of all the stand-alone players I tried all those copies on were just not made that great (funny that they don't have a problem with any other disc though)
But I went out and picked up a slightly more expensive player (the Sony model DVP-NS50P) and that one plays it fine (All the factory copies plus the home duplicate of it)...
Still don't understand why only that one disc, specially when it is not just 1 movie but a whole series, but since I found one that dose play it fine, no real point in looking in to it any farther....
