I wanted to know if its possable to rip a dvd to divx and retain the subtitles or embed one of them in the movie for set top Divx player such as LG DF8900P Chipset: MediaTek MT1389 . That way I can put a few movies on a DVDR in divx quality and format with the subtitle. Most of the movies I want to do that are asian with english subtitles...mostly kung fu.
Any help would be great,I can rip to divx fine and have a subtile for PC playback but not for set top players ,they don't see the direct vob sub files to display or use the subtitles.

Hi-
It kind of depends on whether or not your player supports external subs. Look it up in the DVD player database and see if anyone has reported on subtitle playback
Mine also has a MediaTek chipset and supports external subs in SRT, SSA, SMI, and IDX/SUB formats. Ordinarily, to get them to show up, you press the "Subtitle" button on the remote after starting the AVI. I do anyway.
If yours doesn't support external subs, then you encode the AVI, at the same time "burning" the subs into the video. You do this using the VobSub or TextSub filters if using AviSynth, or the equivalent filters in VDub(Mod). -
Should definatly support external sub, however if you want .divx files then that means using xSubs. Otherwise just go with avi and srt subs.
