I'm working my way through a batch of Verbatim discs, which have a great reputation.

Unfortunately, I get the above error message on half the discs. Could I have gotten a bad batch? Or something else?

    Possibilites:

    Bad discs.
Bad project file (God, I hope not).
Bad version of Adobe Encore (I made sure I upgraded to Encore 1.514... whatever).
Bad burner (I changed to different computer with a different burner. I still get errors.)

I also went back to burning on Memorex, and I got the same error once. Then the next one I burnt worked fine.

    ...

Someone just suggested to me to turn off Counterspy and anti-virus programs.

I have only gotten that message when I did not properly select project type to match the media I had in the drive

Burning software was set to cd but I had dvd in drive or vis a versa

useing +r, -r, unsupported brand or speed not compatable with the burner would give a different error or just say not media in drive

I'm trying to burn a DVD-R. I haven't run across any project type choices in Encore before, but I'll take a look.

There is a project tab where I had 4.7 gb selected (650mb and 700mb were some of the other choices). Is that what you meant?

Anyway, I'm now exporting as a DVD folder and burning the Video_ts files to disc using Nero. Found a good tutorial here.

Incidentally, anyone know why the Nero burning template has an audio folder, but I'm not instructed to put any files into it?

Most DVDs have this unused audio folder in them. Some say you should always put the folder there because some players require it. I don't know the story but it seems to be a left over from some previous standard.

I think the original DVD spec called for DVD-Audio to use the AUDIO_TS folder. The along came DeCSS before the DVD-Audio spec was finalized, and the RIAA/MPAA started over. I've heard this from multiple sources, mostly forums, as I doubt the **AAs would acknowledge this.

I may be wrong, but it does seem logical. I sincerely doubt your player would choke on the disc if it didn't have that folder.
