I have Phillips DVP 642 which plays everything but it doesnt play sound when playing XX.S2D.mpg assest that have been placed on a DVD for backup purposes ..
i was wondering if anyone new of a DVD player that does play them ?
i would be intrested in buying one if there is one .

erm...so why not just finish the mpg to DVD conversion w/ S2D to allow playback on yr Philips? You aren't saving any more space by leaving your video files in raw mpeg format.
Otherwise check the VideoHelp DVD Player Ratings for the feature you are looking for. -
yes i know but i have my reasons why i do this ...
anyway if you select AC3 for your sound in settings they will play from the dvd player or at least my phillips dvd player selecting anything else will give you video but no sound .. -
It maybe that the mpegs are NTSC and without AC3 the Philips won't play the sound. Are they NTSC?

press audio on the philips dvd remote think it ch 0 just workyour way up and down
you will find audio will play a ok -

the audio wil start to play that ch works for me for you just keep changeing audio channel slowly till you find one that plays

off topis but if you do burn just avis to your phillips to play the player will play subs too
Found this suck in the back of the DVP642/37 user manual. It has no page number and looks to be put there after maual was made? This is from a new DVP642/37 back of player has a sticker that reads "July 2005"
External Subtitle(For DivX disc)
1. Load a DivX disc and press"Disc Menu" on remote control
>The Data CD Menu appears on the TV screen:
2.Press the up or down on remote control to select an external subtitle option.
3.Press SUBTITLE to select a subtitle file.
>"DIVX SUBTITLE SELECTED" appears on the TV screen.
4.Press the up/down to highlight the movies files "mpeg4", and press OK to confirm
>The playback will start accordinly.
NOTE:
*During playback,press SUBTITLE button on remote control to select available font:SUBTITLE1/1,ENCODING LATIN 1,ENCODING LATIN 2,ENCODING LATIN CYRILLIC,SUBTITLE OFF.
*If an external subtitle has been selected, the DivX embedded subtitle we be deativated.
*This model supports LATIN 1,2,LATIN CYRILLIC fonts

now i don't know if this was put into the later models of the DVP642/37? but I hope it was helpful to someone somewhere ?
