I am very new to this, I'm using nero to burn dvd on dvd+rw disk and I have tried them in 3 different standalone dvd players and the movie won't play in any of them. Am I missing a step some where or is it the dvd players? thank you

You may need to step back a bit here.

How were you burning. ie drag & drop .vob files to video folder or is it a data file?

Do the DVD players support RW's ?
Does the DVDRW play on your PC (as a DVD) or as a data file?

If you can give a bit of background as to how you got to this stage it would be helpful.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes, you are missing a step. I'm not going to tell you which one though - you can guess like we have to

So you downloaded an mpeg file, loaded it into Nero 7 and . . . .

Put the DVD/RW into your PC and open it in explorer. Tell us what files you see.

Unless you specifically specified in Nero that you're created a video DVD, you did not create a video DVD.

OK I see we are getting there !

You actually need to turn your MPEG file into a DVD suitable file with another program. (just burning a file as a dvd does nothing)

You will need to learn a DVD Authoring program. A freebie is https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=dvdauthor and an interface so you can see what you are doing easier
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=dvdauthor (free also)

From here you put your mpeg file in and "Author" it to something you can then burn to a disk and it will be seen in a DVD.

A bit more homework to do yet.

Nero can do it if you nerovision and associated components. Try reading you manual/help files.
