  1. Question submitted by me to the NEC help desk:
I’m thinking of buying your ND-3550a burner. Your website lists XP SP2 as the required OS. Does the burner work with SP1?

    NEC help desk response:
Could you please verify the following information; it will help us in diagnosing your problem.

    1) Is the icon for the DVD/CD visible under My Computer (right click on my computer (which should be located on your desktop), select “Properties”, then select the “Device Manager” tab)?

    2) Under the Device Manager what drives are reported under DVD\CD Rom drives?

    3) Verify that your DVD drive has the latest firmware upgrades. You can confirm that you have the latest firmware by following the instructions below:

    a) Navigate to http://support.necsam.com/Downloads/

    b) Under “Other Downloads” double click on DVD-CD ROM.

    c) Double click on the “New DVD R/W Firmware Updates”

    d) Double click on your drive model and download your DVD firmware upgrade.

Read all Instructions carefully before updating the drive firmware

    4) What software and version were you using when you first noticed the problem?

    5) What is the Service Tag Number for your drive? This is a unique service number assigned to your drive by NEC. The Service Tag number can be found on the outside of your original packaging, as well as on a smaller technical support label provided to you with your product documentation. An example of a Service Tag label can be found below:

    etc., etc.

    Is this funny or tragic?

At least they responded at all, even if lame. I've had other companies not respond at all to email questions.

I guess that is worse. You can't laugh at no response.
