    hey everyone
i had this crazy idea tonight to hook up an old computer to the tv in the living room so i can stream movies to it through the LAN network

the problem is the frame rate is horrible on divx/xvid, i think its because the computer in the living room is ghetto (win98se, 350mhz k6-2, 64mb ram, 32mb video) the one its streaming from is good (winxp, 3.2ghz, 512mb ram)

im using windows media player on the ghetto computer, and its a clean install of win98se so theres no garbage on it, just codecs and such so audio and video work

i even tried playing a divx video straight from the hard drive on the ghetto computer, its still choppy, like 7.8fps

any ideas of improving playback, besides upgrading the computer?
    thanks

it's the ghetto computer, i have the same one! (it's called 'turd' on my network)
this computer simply can't keep up. it was built during 56k downloads and stuff like that.
i put a second hard drive in the turd and it is used for network storage cause you can stream movies FROM the turd (ghetto) no problem. theres just not enough processor for playback
I am just a worthless liar,
    I am just an imbecil
