  1. this is going to sound silly but i've googled everywhere but cant find the answer.

My question is about pal and ntsc. I currently have a dvd player that plays both ntsc and pal. Its zero region coded too. I want to buy a region1 coded dvd (i think thats USA thus i think its in ntsc). i live in the uk.

If i bought the dvd and played it, will everything be ok??? I know that there are different resolutions to pal and ntsc and other differences too, but i'm not sure how much that will affect me whilst watching.

Also, does it matter if my tv can play both systems? i'm not sure whether my tv supports ntsc. whether or not it does, will it affect my viewing? if so how much? [i'm not sure whether the effects of the pal/ntsc differences whilst watching is dependant on my player or both my player or tv actually, so i mention both]

I'm asking this as i dont particularly want to rip the dvd when i buy it and convert it. i just want to watch it without hassle lol.

    Help appreciated

If your tv doesn't support NTSC then the film will be either black and white or in colour but very jerky.

  3. It should work, if not I would be pissed. I believe the player will do the conversion on the fly so it will play on your tv.
    Quality is my policy.

Most european DVD players will put out a PAL60 signal when playing a NTSC DVD.
This will probably work ok on your TV.

Best is to use a RGB scart cable with your DVD player, this will give you the best playback quality and gives the least of probems when playing back NTSC material.
Ofcourse if your TV / DVD support both RGB signals.

It's been said before but I'll say it again, ALL European DVD players will play NTSC discs. Europe is Region 2 and uses PAL, Japan is Region 2 and uses NTSC, therefore EVERY Region 2 DVD player MUST be able to play both formats.

As you player is region free a region 1 NTSC DVD will play perfectly in your player.
