  1. I have created simple VCDs (no menu, 1 MPEG fully compliant) with both Roxio and Nero. When played on my Pionner DV-535 (that supposedly plays everything) they play for 4 seconds and then freezes and stops. I have tried with and without PBC. I have tested with different burners (both CD-R and CD-RW). Same result.

    Any clue?

  2. That's odd, I own a Pioneer DV-535 and I can assure you it just plays everything! I encode most of my DVD rips in non-compliant MPG (1800 kb/sec) and burn on the cheaper discs I can get my hands on, NEVER had any problems of any kind at playback. So my guesses are:
    1) Your DVD lens needs cleaning. You can check this by playing your VCD in another DVD player, if it plays OK then have your Pioneer cleaned.
    2) Your CD-burner is writing rubbish on the disc for some reason (hardware/software). If your VCD refuses to play on yet another player this might be the case.

    Good luck
