    HI

Does anyone have a DVD Player bought in the USA from Best Buy or Circuit City that will play Verbatim DVD-R DL's without issue.

    TIA

  2. Good luck with this, I asked questions about my Panasonic F85 not being able to play DL burned discs with no replay for over a week. Go to the DVD player section of this site. It gives information and features on almost every model. There are certain modles that will play DL. This blank Duel layer thing is tantamount to nothing more then another technology that requires you update your current DVD player. Most players don't seem to play duel layer burned discs. It's a rip-off. My player will show you the meus on a DL burned disc and when you hit play it locks up.

  3. DVD-R DL's are not ready for prime time; compatibiltiy is 70% at best. far cry from the 93-97% industry requirement. doesn't matter which burner or media you use. the end result will probably be the same. worst with goofy media of course. but unplayable just the same.

DVD+R DL is not much better.

As far as the comment two up, Panasonic DVD recorders are known to not play DL media. All there is to it. Panasonic recorders don't make great players. They don't even make great recorders to be thorough about it.

I'm not talking recorders I'm talking players. Pick up any consumer reports and Panasonic DVD players are rated best. It is true most don't play DL but most players out there don't play DL either. The DL technology is a scam at this point. The F85 is a great 5 disc Progressive scan player. It Plays all manufacuteres single layer discs, and at $125, no player can match it for twice the price in quality and performance.

we all know you don't like + media.....

you have more luck with +R DL beecaus of bitsetting, and making the disc as Dvd-rom type.

don't think there is ANY player to read -R DL because they see it as -R...............

    Quite the contrary.
    I absolutely love YUDEN000T002 DVD+R media.
The MCC003 DVD+R is pretty darn nice too.

    Good stuff.
Use it for myself all the time. Just not as compatible as DVD-R, so try not to use it for other people.

Of course there ARE other uses for DL media besides copying movies. Just because the media doesn't work properly in a standalone doesn't make the technology a scam.

From my experience playback compatibility with DL media is much better on recorders than it is on players. Most players that will play your disc will stop when the layer switches. Recorders have a much better success rate for both media types(-/+). Both stores have several that support +r media. The LG models at best buy(I tried them) support -/+ media. The sony models were sketchy at best. I was looking to buy an additional recorder and I usually check Best Buy since they are just around the corner. Take a recorded disc with you. Make sure to ask a representative before you start putting discs in their display devices. You can check compatibility by seeing if the disc works and then advancing to the last tracks to ensure it can read from the second layer. I didn't buy any from Best Buy because the price was a little steep compared to online sellers.
