  1. I've had this player for about a year with no problems. Then suddenly the other day, recordings that I had set with Video Plus were playing back with bloody awful audio... the sort that usually accompanies the snow storm picture on a TV. I could barely hear the commentary on the video (picture is perfect). I haven't changed anything... this problem is just out of the blue. And it's very strange...

When the player is sitting idle (on, but doing nothing) and the TV is set to EXT1 (the channel the SCART delivers to), the sound is only crackling a little bit (which, of course, is still unacceptable). However, when I press the button to open the tray, the audio goes bloody bezerk as the snowstorm sound kicks in, and it continues to do so when I close the tray and press record.

It's as though any activity on the JVC is "intefering" with the signal on the television and making the audio go tits-up. I've tried swapping SCART cables but the result is the same, and I really don't know what the problem could be. It's not anything to do with the player, is it? Please can somebody help?

  2. Looks like the M10 has a large number of audio outputs. One coaxial, one optical, two RCA jacks associated with S-video output, and two SCART connectors. Have you tried any of these other audio outputs?

  3. No I haven't tried any other audio output... I've been using SCART all the time (which I believe delivers the video and audio signal at the same time). If I used another audio output, like one of the ones you mentioned, would I still use the SCART lead to deliver the video signal, or would I have to use some other lead (S-Video for example)?

Which is best out of the coaxial, optical and RCA leads? Thanks for your reply.

Just had another thought... might it be a problem with the RF cable or TV aerial cable? The only reason I say that is because, basically, it sounds like something isn't "tuned" properly... or rather, it's making the kind of noise a channel makes when it isn't tuned properly.

  4. I had distorted audio come on with my M10 after about 10 months. It would appear at random but usually after the thing had been on a while. Does powering it off at the mains clear the problem temporarily? Did for me. I tried to isolate the problem to various sources etc but in the end decided it was a real fault. It tended to be worse at the beginning of a recording but in some cases it was uniformly bad and could be heard even if I wasn't recording anything (just monitoring through the M10 on the AVx input on the TV). Did sound quite a lot like an interference problem.

Fortunately it was still in warranty and so had it returned as a service fault. They fixed the audio problem and guess what....the "Loading" problem returned (for the 2nd time). So it went back to have that fixed and basically the M10 was then pronounced FUBAR. Got a replacement (not M10 but more recent JVC) unit.

Everyone seemed to get the "Loading" problem. Audio problems seem less common
