I want to add 2 Avi;s to one dvd, well actually i want to convert these files first to DVD files using Winavi which i know how to do but would like to then put them on a dvd so they follow on, is this possible?

Sorry if its a really easy answer but im not sure!

if you add both avis in winavi doesn't they automatically play after each other? or is it a menu and you have to select each video? or some gap between them?

Assumed these are first encoded to correct format.

Consider Tmpgenc DVD Author (TDA) to create a menu and 2 tracks. Alter display action to go to menu or play all etc. Ideal program for a beginner upwards.

Are these 2 files separate from each other; i.e they are NOT 2 halves of one video that you wish to try and play continuously? If they are then you must join together first.

You don't have to join two part AVIs together first - in fact, if these have either MP3 or AC3 audio, you're better off IMHO converting both to DVD-compliant MPEG first seperately, then letting your authoring program join them by adding 2 clips into the same track. Tends to overcome sync issues that way.

Agree with TDA though - it will do the job nicely and easily.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I agree with you-you are best encoding separately and then joining via authoring program. Works for me everytime. I think all this damp weather back home as gone straight to my brain!!!!!!!!! Apologies.

As Jimmalenko said-the best way to avoid potential sync issues is to encode each half separately and then join together with your DVD authoring program. An alternative is to join together BEFORE you encode. You can use VirtualDub (use 'append segment') to join them together. This does not guarantee there wont be a sync issue. Neither does the first method but it is more likely that it will turn out OK.

Once you've encoded each half, then you would be wise to use TDA to join together. Very easy program. Just go 'Add File' for first half of film then (add chapters if necessary) click OK; then go 'Add File' again to add second half of film. Click Ok. If no menu needed then select no menu from drop down box on the right-ignore the 'warning page' as this does NOT actually appear on the DVD. Go to 'Output' and then click onto proceed. Job done!!!! If file size is within DVD5 limit then burn straight away through incorporated burner.
