I dont really see them very often, such as at best buy, circuitcity ads. as a matter of fact, last time i've checked, i dont even think these electronic stores carry them.

    Is this an privacy issue?

    Ahhhhhhhh google

It's probably just a (bad) marketing decision not to stock them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

$5 each is quite expensive. Thought these dual media's have been out for awhile. I have never seen an electronic store ad listing these dual medias.

DVD-R DL hasn't been out for that long. You're probably thinking about DVD+R DL, which has been out a lot longer.

But yes, it's pretty well known around these parts that they're both still quite pricey.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The Best Buy and CompUSA stores in my area almost always have at least one or two of the 3-packs on the shelf, but yeah, they're expensive as hell.
MicroCenter usually has more in stock, but no better price.

Wal-Mart sells DL +R Verbatim disks 3-packs for $19.87 (or so). By the time you add in shipping from most on-line places, the on-line price is the same price as or maybe even a little more than Wal-Mart's, including sales tax at Wal-Mart.
I am not talking prices for Verbatims compared to prices for some other DL brand disks. I am talking Verbatim DL compared to Verbatim DL. These are very good disks. Labeled as 2.4X, they actually have a 6X write strategy on them for those burners that have the firmware for it.

The Wal-Marts here locally in central Florida where I live went through a period about a month or two ago when they didn't have any of these disks on their shelf. They still had the empty place for them, but no disks. Lately, they have had them, although the last time I bought some earlier this week, there were only two 3-packs left. I don't know if Wal-Mart's corporate buyers are unaware of the popularity of these disks, or if they just can't obtain enough of them.

Fry's has these at about the same price. Ditto for the Memorex 3-packs. For some unknown reason, the Fuji DL 3-packs they sell go for as much as 10 bucks more.

You see dual burners everywhere, but you don't see Dual disc very often. These discs have been out for like 1 to 2 years now. Am i correct? I assumed most of you guys have dual burners since these burners are so cheap, do you guys use 4.7 more often or 8.5? and where do you all purchase your 8.5 discs?

haven't upgraded to a DL burner yet because the media is so scarce.
I figure by the time the media is readily available at an acceptable price, the DL burners will be even better and cheaper to boot.

About the only time I use DL disks is when a movie I'm backing up with DVD Shrink is too big for DVD Shrink to compress enough to fit on one disk. Sometimes movies with both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS will be too big unless you delete one or the other soundtrack. DVD Shrink seems to automatically deselect DTS and leave Dolby Digital alone. Often, if you re-select DTS as well as Dolby Digital, the disk will be too big for DVD Shrink. I like to have both audio formats, so I usually use DL disks for that. I also have used DL disks to copy data that was more that 4.7GB.
Otherwise, I use a regular single-layer DVD. They're much cheaper. I usually keep 3 or 4 DL disks around, just in case.
    I buy 'em in 3-packs at Wal-Mart.
