I got a Medion computer second hand and it had a Mitsumi CDR/RW CR485CTE installed in it.
I have gone to the Medion and Mitsumi site but no help there. I have googled for the drive but not much comes up and no help there, so I am here looking for advice on this drive.
Here is the problem.
It will read a standard cdr but will not read any cdRW's.
WindowsXp does not see cdrw when placed in drive.
Is the unit dead as far as cdrw?
Is it now only a cdrom?
What do you think about this?

Well do you have any packet reading software installed? CDRW's often are used with packet writing ( InCd or directcd ) and windows xp as far as I know does not support packet written cds so you would need a reader. I've also heard that some of the packet written cds are more or less proprietary format so that you need to use the software it was written with..... this second part is however second hand info so I don't know if the proprietary part is true. What are you using to make cdr/cdrw's?
