Question
Can anyone recommend a quality Streaming Video Recorder app that records directly to DVD standard Mpeg 1 or 2?
Situation
I am a paying licensed subscriber to a video site that encodes its files with DRM. I have no problems watching the files on my desktop which holds the files. However, I spend much of my time on the road with my laptop. I have found a "work around" for being able to bypass the DRM. The problem is that it takes hours of converting to Mpeg.
My system is to download the DRM protected video file to my HD. I then play the file in WMP 10 and capture it using FRAPS screen capture app. The resulting AVI(s) are huge, usually close to 100 gb. I then have to use TMPGENC to convert them to useable Mpeg format.
I use FRAPS for several reasons:
-Easy to setup and use
-It has lossless capture
-It handles huge files easily
-It captures only the video, so there’s no need for croping later on.
The only downside is the huge AVI files and the lengthy process of converting to MPEG.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback on better mpeg capture apps, any methods i can use to shorten the conversion process, or any other faster methods for completing this process, thanks.

Tmpgenc is a great encoder, but it is slow - VERY slow. If you're willing to choose the non-Mpeg route, VirtualDubMod and the Xvid codec will convert uncompressed AVI files at 15fps on my junky 2.4Ghz P4. Not too bad. Choose a high enough bit rate in Xvid (>2000) and you should end up with some nice looking files which will be even smaller than Mpeg2s.
VSO Software's DivXtoDVD will encode your AVI to DVD compatible VOB files at 25fps or faster. If you insist on MPEG, this is probably the fastest app out there. Download the freeware version, as it is faster than the shareware one at the moment.
