I have 5 .mpg files (700 meg each) I wish to combine and burn to a dvd for playback on a standalone player. What is the best way to do this?

I would like to have a basic menu that allows access to each file.

    TDA is your friend.

  3. I have several DVDs containing 5 (or 6) .mpg files; just drag-n-dropped them all to my burner menu, first. But if you mean you want them all in DVD format, you will have ~8 GB data to squeeze. For personal use, I find the .mpg format handier (my stand-alone reads .mpg).

See if your player can play raw MPEG - the DVD Players link to your left may assist. You'll get a menu as determined by your player - normally just a listing of the files on your DVD. If it doesn't, check to see if your files are DVD-compliant - What is DVD (top left) can help with this. If they all are, drop them into some authoring software, author and burn. If they're not, convert them to DVD-compliant MPEG, then author.

If you want to get your hands dirty, http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm tells you everything you need to know. If you want something a bit more "one-click", DivxToDVD would be my recommendation. You can then bring its output back into something like TMPGEnc DVD Author and create a simple menu if you wish.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thansk for all replies -
    I'll provide some more info.
These were originally .mov hi def quicktime files.

I use Xilisofts mov converter to make them .mpg

FInally I used TMPGEnc's dvd author to put all .mpg onto a dvd.

PIcture quality on my standalone was excellent. Unfortunately there were some lip synch issues. THis was only very noticeable on the .mpg that I mistakenly configured as mono. THe other 3 stereo ones were generally fine.

Someone else has recommended winavi to convert .mov straight to dvd (vob). Would anyone else confirm this as a good strategy?

    Any advice/comments appreciated.
