An IEEE 1394 card only provides your computer with Firelink or i.link capability. With the firewire capability you can connect peripherals such as flatbed scanners, external burners, external hard drives, and so on. You cannot capture with it in the normal sense. If you have a digital camcorder with a Firewire or i.link interface you can transfer the contents of the MiniDV tape or other digital tape to your hard drive, but that's not really capturing.
