Sorry, I know there alot of info on here about reauthoring but I have a problem. first of all I have 5 episodes of a show on one dvd I recorded with my ilo dvdr04 in ep mode. I tried opening the disc with dvd shrink and it said "invalid dvd navigation problem".

I tried dvd decrypter, and picked a vob file and it skipped the first few minutes for some reason when it recorded to my hdd. I tried copying an episode from this disc to test and see how it would work ripping a single episode to the hdd.

What I want to ultimately do is record a show on a cd-rw on HQ mode, then put that show on my hdd, and do that 4 times. Then take those 4 episodes and put them on one disc using dvd shrink. I think the quality would be better doing this than if I recorded the episodes on LP or EP. Can someone recommend a program that works with Ilo/Liteon created discs, preferably freeware.

  2. Actually, you're better off recording the episodes closer to the bitrate they will ultimately be on your final disc than to record at a much higher bitrate and then shrink. That way, you're not encoding and then RE-encoding. If you still have to reencode, the change would be minimal. The ILO/ LiteOn units do pretty well in the LP (3 hour) mode, but as you may already know, this recording speed is only available through a hack.

As far as the DVD navigation error goes, I get that, too, only when using DVD+RWs. If I'm going to reauthor something, I record to a DVD+R and everything goes OK. I have now reserved my DVD+RW recording to things that I will view, but not be reauthor later.

Some ILO and LiteOn units come with 3 hour mode native. My LiteOn 5104, for example, has 3-hour natively. No hack was needed. Firmware 1162 for the LiteOn 5001, also, had 3-hour native.
