  1. I've been using DVDDecrypter for some time now to make backup copies of my DVD's, and burnt them on my MEDION DVD burner (a clone of a Pioneer 106D), using InterVideo's DVD Copy.
    I have been getting excellent results prior to my latest purchase of DVD media, a spindle of Phillips DVD+R's.
    Out of the first 14 used so far, 5 have failed to finalize. DVD Copy has got to the stage "Finalizing Disc - 99%" and then nothing... I even have to re-boot my PC as the 106D locks up and I can't open it.
    However, I've then tried another disc from the same spindle, and it's worked OK.
    I'm not sure if the previous Phillips DVD's I'd used were "+" or "-".
    Could this be a bad batch of discs or am I missing something?

    I use DVDDecrypter in FILE mode, decrypt to hard drive, and then use DVD Copy to write from this source. Should I be using it in a different way? If so, what's the difference?

    Is there a way to finalise these "coasters"? I've seen a post saying that I can use DVDDecrypter to do this, but I can't get this to work either.

    I have the InterVideo software that came with my 106D; DVD Copy, DVD Recorder, DVD Creator, and DVD Master.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Hi,

    it may be that your drive only supports + or - and you are just being lucky sometimes with the wrong type.

    It is quite possible you have a bad spindle (or part spindle)

    Or it may be that the new drive isnt massively compatible with the current media.

    Your method sounds fine.

    As far as i know there isnt a way to finish finalising a disc, if the process has stopped half way. (tho i am kinda expecting to be corrected on this one!!)

    Try different media (check in media section to the left) and see f you have any better luck.

    (sorry have now read your post again......sounds like bad spindle)

  3. Thanks Zworg2.
    I checked my previous DVD's and they were "-R's". So I'll probably stick to -R's in the future, even though the drive's spec shows as both -R and +R. Then again it may be a bad spindle batch...

    Just as a suggestion (if they are still available) try purchasing a multi pack, with one each of a number of different brands of disc.

    <edit>
    they are available.
    -------> Try HERE <---------

    you then get a chance to see which discs work?

    if your drive states it takes both + and -, then it should take both, and you may have hit a bad spindle or bad brand

    hope that helps

    I just copied 400 disks that were made about 2 years ago. Of the 400, two of the disks were Phillips+Rs (the rest were TY, TDK and Ritek). Only 2 disks of the 400 were unreadable- guess which two.

  8. I have exactly the same problem, but I am using an external enclosure, I am trying to figure out whether it's the enclosure that causes the problem. the following is my post and help from other people

    Rip and burn in ISO mode with DVDDecrypter. Not FILE mode.

    Try different media.

    If your drive still acts funky, open device manager and uninstall the DVD burner and reboot your machine. Let windows plug and pray do it's thing and reinstall the drive. Reinstall the driver if you have it.

    Firmware upgrades, etc, etc.

    Back to device manager. Check to make sure your IDE controllers are in DMA mode, not PIO mode.

    If that don't fix it, it's probably fooked.
    flonk!
