I'm fairly certain that all audio has to be based on a 48 kHz sampling rate. In NTSC land, you must have either a linear PCM track or an AC-3 track (Dolby Digital, which can be 2.0 or 5.1, or perhaps other choices; a typical bitrate for 2.0 AC-3 is 192 kbps). In PAL land, you can add MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio as one of the choices (abbreviated MP2). LPCM is just a 48-kHz, 16-bit WAV file. So if you have a 44.1 kHz 16-bit source your software should be able to re-sample it.
Tools used: ScenalyzerLive 4.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional, Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, IFOedit 0.96, DVD-lab PRO 1.53, Adobe Audition 2.0
