I was wondering if there are any aspect ratio calculators to give you the size you should resize to for avi-to dvd conversion. I'm using Mainconcept and I need an easy way to find out what to crop and scale to. I've used FitCD but it gives me a different number than BitratCalc. So I'm kind of confuse on which one is the right one. I'm trying to convert a 23.976 fps, 592*240 (2.46:1), avi file to dvd. I got a standard tv and I want it to look right. I think my tv displays 4:3.

Why don't you cut out a 1 minute sample with virtualdub, then do two encodes - one with the values FitCD gives, and then one with the values BitratCalc gives. Then author and burn this as per normal and test in your player to see which one is right ?
If in doubt, Google it. -
thats a really good idea...no one suggest that before. Can you tell me how to cut out a sample with virtualdub or link me to a guide. I'm don't really know how to use virutaldub.
nvm I found the guide here -
Oh, come on !
That's what the guides section is for

Do and join the files after the encode because thats how I resize with Mainconcept. How do I join the files after the 2 encodes with dvd files?

I'm not sure how to resize the FitCD into Mainconcept now.
-
Install avisynth. Load up fitCD and load your source. FitCD will work out the size, and create an avysinth script (.avs). Save this, load it into mainconcept and go from there. Avisynth will do all the resizing for you, including adding any borders that may be necessary. Just tell main what format (PAL or NTSC), full frame size (720 or 704) and aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9) and encode.
P.S. My own AR resize calculator is in my sig. The accompanying readme file has instructions for using it with virtualdub.Read my blog here.
