i'm new to burning but if there's no difference in qualiity then what's the point of buying R? you can't delete something if you messed up

  4. DVD+RW media is less reflective then DVD+R media so DVD players have a harder time playing back a RW disc.

  6. The quality is no different. The advantage or +/-RW is that you can erase it if something goes wrong. You don't get coasters. Also, if you are recording to a standalone recorder and want to do further authoring on your PC you can just record and rip to PC. Then erase the disc and do it again.

Also note that +/- RW media is not ment for archiving, it is unstable and *slowly* deteriorates over time(because it uses phasechange technology instead of dyes).
Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.

what really? I just put 4.4 gigs of all my important family pics, documents, and videos on a RW disc and was planning on saving that disc for a really long time. How long do those discs last for?

Depends on ambience (temperature and humidity).Handled carefully, I expect no data loss for 2-3 years. Never put important stuff on DVD RW without backup. And why not on R? They are so much cheaper and faster.
For reliable RW storage, I use DVD-RAM.

(note to myself:copy all the RW to R now)

I encountered a lot of read errors, after having an hot and humid ambience (that was before installing an Air Conditioning).
