If I am not mistaken, for DVDs, the goal is to export from FCP with MPEG-2....but in FCP you can do that with or without the 'compressor"...I believe the other choice is "quicktime movie format"....both permit MPEG-2...is there a right or wrong answer and/or does one way provide better quality?
Thank You,
Mark

Exporting to Quicktime makes a reference movie file, that
you can later drag and drop onto Compressor,
to enable it to create the MPEG-2.
Exporting to Compressor is a direct way to spool the
project over to Compressor to have the file done
right at that moment.
Use Export to QT to create a reference movie to
enable Compressor to, say, work in batch mode or
overnight on your job, without FCP open.
Use Export to Compressor for small 5 min to 30 min
projects, where it won't take as long to do.
Also, the quality of the MPEG-2 , regardless of what
method you use, is dependent on (a) the overall length of
the project, and (b) the encoding Bitrate you use,
based upon that length."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
