This is semi-related to the EyeTV thread above, but not
enough so to piggyback onto it.
Will EyeTV200 copy a commercial, copy-protected VHS tape?
I'm as "done" as I can be for now on my project to convert
our VHS tapes to DVD format. The combo VCR/DVD-Recorder did
a good job with non-commercial tapes, but it refused to work
with commercial protected ones. I bought DVD replacements
when I could and just tossed most of the rest, but I've
still one videotape in the house: David Attenborough's
Life on Earth series. That puppy is not available as a
Region-1 disc (except some China sources that I'd rather
not mess with).

The RX-II Video Stabilizer does a great job of this. You may find it here:

Thanks, Rump, but I fear I was unclear. I was not getting
unstable video from the tapes. The DVD-recorder half of
my combo unit recognized commercial copy protection and
refused to proceed. Rather a different animal.
It doesn't dub commrcial DVDs to tape, either.
I know some A/D converters honor the protection and others
don't. I was asking whether EyeTV does. -
The RX-II blocks Macrovision signals and, therefore, permits you to record the analog output to another analog device (including a Canopus or a DVD recorder, etc.).
