  1. I have many files of low res (320x240) that I would like to make into a vcd. Is it possible at this res? I know the end product will be very pixelated but thats all I have. They are saved in a mpg format & I if an1 would like to have a go I could email a file to you. I have tried to make a vcd with downloaded mpg/mpeg from Winmx but havent had any luck.
I use Nero defaults ...Pal but no success. Any help would be gratly appreciated.

Yes, you should be able to do this. You'll need to use TMPGENC to re-encode those MPEGs into VCD-compliant MPEG files.

I for one, can say the picture quality SUCKS on a bigger t.v. I have a bunch of those little 15 second movies of the kids and such...

The problem the mavica has, is, of course the 320x240 resolution, the 15 second per clip limatation.. at the bitrate really sucks, or the frame rate is real low, like 15 fps or something!!!!

Of course, I have the FD95, and maybe they fixed some of those issues in the cybershot series.

I have the Apex 5191 3 disc changer, it was nice to just stick all my digital pictures on a cd, including my mpeg movies, (no reencoding), and put the disk in the apex, and, it would autoload a menu, and you navigate to the file you want, or just let it slideshow... GREAT player for that feature alone... it auto loads SVCD's within about 10 seconds, and auto plays them too...doesn't automatically go from the disk 1 to disk 2, to disk 3 tho, but hitting those buttons on the remote control is no big deal... the player is only $149.99 at Circum city!!!!

    Just my $0.02

  4. there is a good way of using the mavicam clips, but you have to be a bit creative

first of all, i had some troubles reading them in, in the end i first converted them to avi's, using for example videomach or whatever you prefer

second, the actual framerate of a mavicam is 1/3rd lower then wat you would expect, i.e. 8 fps! the mavicam creates 'empty' frames every second and third frame (at least mine does) if you want to apply smart / time based filters you have to remove all those superfluous frames

third, 320x240 sucks, but then again, vcd is not much bigger... if you allow a black or coloured border around, the results are acceptable, as an alternative, i often use a normal still (yep, made with the same mavicam) of the subject, then fade in / out a part of the screen with the mavicam movie, noone notices the quality and everybody goes wow

as an alternative, split the screen in four quadrants, play corner 1, stop at the end, play corner 2, stop at the end etc. resulting in a mix of movies and stills
