  2. The link describes how to turn video source into 352 x 240 mpeg-2 with a relatively low bitrate. This looks okay, but it has visibly lower quality than even an SVCD (480 x 480) or a half D1 DVD (352 x 480) with a decent bitrate. Also, such DVDs sometimes play back fine on some DVD players, and sometimes don't play at all on others. This is a non-standard video format, like SVCD and SVCD and XSVCD that's not part of the plain vanilla DVD specs. So your resulting 9 hour DVD might or might not play back on a given DVD player, though it'll probably play on any computer. It will also have mediocre picture quality at best. The single-layer DVD-R was just never designed to hold 9 hours of video.
