Pioneer A09 burning problem

I have a fairly new A09 unit. Works fine burning CD, CDRW, DVD-RW, but craps out 9 out of 10 times burning regular DVD-R or DVD+R discs. Cant figure out the problem. I'm using the latest version of Dvd Decrypter, and
Nero 6.0

I'm using Pioneer firmware 1.57, any help appreciated.

I don't know which 'regular' discs you are using, but try some different brands.

Media code?
DMA or PIO?
Master/Slave/CS (Single drive on the channel?)
Burn speed?
Defragged lately?
Background serviices running? (ie: resource intensive ones ala AV progs)..
All I can think of atm..Haven't had enough of my morning coffee yet .

thanks for the reply..here is what I know...

Media Code: Verbatim MCC 03RG20
I've tried as master DMA, and as USB external
Drives are defragged
16X burn speed.

I was able ti burn a disc a few mins ago at 4X speed

Trying to find out if this unit will work with these Verbatim 16X disc, at 16X speed.
