panasonic nv-gsi7 transfer to pc problems

I recently bought the above panasonic minidv. I have since installed a firewire card and cable. I got ulead video studio8 with it. The pc connects ok to the camera and rewinds and starts to play the camera ok but when it starts to capture it comes up with the line failed to build a preview graph cannot capture and also capture module initiate failed.
I have tried windv and also get a termination on capture and with other capture software. Its weird how it works the camera but doesnt capture. I let windows install the card and camera and all went ok. I am using xp with service pack 2 on an emachine 160. It worked oh through usb but quality was jumpy
Now at my wits end i hope someone can help thanks.

done exactly what you said above but still the same.
When i turn on the camera and options come up, if i run windows encoder it says class not registered 0x80040154

ended up formating my hard drive and now everything works fine.
