    Conclusion. XviD is the better video codec. Plus the bitrate of the DivX file is lower (have a look at the b/pixel).

    Sounds like mosquito noise or some other kind of artifact. I guess maybe the ESS chipset is doing some kind of post processing? How does it look when played back with ffdshow and pp enabled?

  3. I just downloaded ffdshow and have no clue as to how to set it up or use it. Any hints?

  4. Never mind, my mistake. For those who were following this thread, it does the same thing on the Philips as well. I don't know why I didn't spot it the last time but maybe because the LG player has a shaper pic.
