Anyone read this yet? I read this over the weekend. Yes, I am ashamed to say I am a Harry Potter fan (not a fan in the way the Yoda is a fan of Star Wars though). Don't worry folks, I don't think I'm going to start a forum or website dedicated soley to Harry Potter. I'm not that far gone.
Anyway... let me know what you thought of it.

Nope, haven't done anything but seen the movies.
But, a local radio station around here (www.965thebuzz.com) gave away the ending the day after the book was read (what happened, who's the half-blood prince, etc). I thought it was funny how angry some people got. I could see myself feeling the same way, but I still got a good laugh. They showed some of the hate-mail they got, good stuff. -
I guess I don't understand fan obsession. That's probably the reason I post the comments about Yoda. Probably because I know life would still go on even if there were no such thing as Harry Potter or Star Wars. I also don't get bent out of shape over spoilers. I'm going to read it anyway. No big deal.

I didn't understand the fan obsession. I was like "pfft its a stupid kids book" and generally was prepaired to hate the movies just out of general spite. Matter of fact the first one had been on DVD for a year before I watched it.
After watching it I was like "well its .... ok"
A little later I was trying to convince a friend of mine to read a book he didn't want to read so we struck a bargain (since he loved the Harry Potter books) and we both read our "don't wanna read it" books.
I've been hooked on them ever since.
I got spoilered also, its funny but in a really lame way. I laughed when it happened just like I laugh when Opie and Anthony have done it (for YEARS they've just casually without warning dropped spoilers for big movies and stuff) sometimes in the past. So I'm not gonna be a hypocrite about it.
However I did hear the audio in the bookstore with the guy running around out midnight (when the book went on sale) shouting the spoiler and I did feel really bad because at one point I heard a little kid start to cry and thats just not right.
All that aside though, I waited 2 days to start reading, then finished it in 2 days. So yeah it was a good book. It feels weird to know that the next one is the last one. -
Hi,
Nope haven't read any of the books. I saw the first movie in the theaters (the "must see" phenomenon). Then I rented the other two. The second was ok but the last movie that was out just seemed flat and forced to me. I just haven't gotten into it.

I enjoy them too although I'm not rushing to get the latest. Sure they are kids books but I enjoy reading a wide variety. I just finished EndersGame which was really good and one of my all time favorites is a picture book.

offline, you realize most hard backs are cheaper when they are released right?
I get my at a grocery store. They will always carry a book that big and usually they are at or around bookstore pre order prices.
I got this one for $17 on the Saturday it came out.
Did you read End Game or Enders Game? -

version or rent it from a special library - the costs stay the same. Yes, I did mean Enders Game. -
I lost interest in the Harry Potter Movies after the second one.
-
Offline you read an entire novel off of your laptop? Man I could never understand e-books, doesn't that kill your eyes?
-
Not at all adam; and I have read perhaps a hundred novels and fifty or so text books. It is an 11" TFT screen at 800x600 and I adjust non pdf files to a comfortable Arial 12 points. The backlight
can be set to 2 levels and on the lower one I feel no eye strain whatsoever.

What did you think? I loved that book.
to find a copy for me as there was nothing at the print impaired library, or on the net for that matter.
I don't think it will be too long before star trek like "PADDs" or e books are more common place. We just need another killer universal format to be invented, like MP3 and how it revolutionized music.
BTW you don't need to buy an old "e" book. I bought a cheap p3 600Mhz Toshiba portage - works
brilliantly! I've dropped it 3 times, even spilt coffee on it. I use a 4gig USB drive to transfer books and eventually I'll plug in a wireless card. -
Na, a laptop is WAY to large for that personally. There ARE ebook readers still out there and there is software to convert your OWN files to the format.
Both Adobe and MS's eBook formats actually are not all that bad, well except for the DRM of course. -
I borrowed a Rocket but it was too limited imo. Yes a laptop is too large but a ultra light sub notebook like the portage is brilliant.
The e format is spartan and I hate all that rego nonsense, so I convert to SXW format.
I get longer battery life and can also play TV/Movies/Music/GPRS Internet during lunch in the park or whereever there is a GSM signal (most cities/towns and some country areas). The only problem is GPRS Internet is slow and very expensive (about 50cents minute.)
Having an 11inch color screen is good too. For technical books I can see two e pages at a time and I don't have to squint. I plan to buy the new Libretto replacement when it becomes available and is at a reasonable price.
This is the older model:

Can't bring a notebook to work, but I could get away with an ebook reader. Its a question of work policy also.
-
Why? I did a stint on level 3 tech support and you have to have a laptop plus a desktop. Are u reading off a screen? I know some co's like teletec force u to read verbatim & therefore ban notebooks and handhelds.
-
My job is just picky. They won't let us bring laptops in at all. They used to then they got mad because alot of people did (no clue) and changed the rule. I could get away with an ebook reader but it it might play a game or a movie and it has a screen its not getting through security.

I read it. Some boring bits about the dark lords history but the ending was, in the most part, a suprise. I enjoyed the darker tone and the more adult style and
think it will be an even better movie. -
