    Hello,
I have a MPEG-4 video file (that I've downloaded) that I am trying to burn onto a dvd so that I can view it on my home dvd player. I have never used a MPEG-4 file and am very unfamilliar with it. I am using 'Nero 7.0' as my burning software, but I have been unable to locate the right conversion software so that I can convert the file to a proper format before I am able to burn it onto dvd.
Can someone recommend me a conversion program and/or suggest a different method for me to get this MPEG-4 onto a video dvd.

Do you know if your DVD player is divx/xvid capable ?

You may be able to just burn as data. Check out the DVD Players link to the left and look up your player.

Alternatively, I'd try divxtoDVD free version:

    http://freedownload.softonic.de/windows/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_0.52.99.exe
    http://www.free-codecs.com/DivXToDVD_download.htm

That *should* get you from A to B as painlessly as possible.

I strongly advocate that you learn the process the manual way so that you know exactly what these one-click wonders do, so if you were looking to get your hands dirty then http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might assist. As always, there's plenty of guides in the Guides section and 1000's of forum posts you can search through should you experience any difficulties.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The problem here is MPEG4 means slightly different things to different people.

If you talk to Mac guys, and to people who work on QuickTime a lot, a MP4 file is actually AVC/AAC QT file with MP4 extension.

If you talk to PC guys, a MPEG4 file means an AVI file that contains XVID or DIVX codec encoded videos.

Until we nail you down to a specific definition we can't give you proper advice.

Try GSpot to ID AVI files. Else, use YAMB to check the file for QT structures.

An mp4 isn't just a mov with an mp4 extension. For instance all those Apple trailers containing AVC and aac, you can't just rename them to mp4, you would need to remux.

Sorry, guess I wasn't as clear as I could. The MP4 wrapper format is definitely BASED on the QT format, and some people have been renaming their QT HD stuff to .MP4, and that is simply WRONG.

QT HD stuff should be named HDMOV.

(Oh, and PC's play that just fine with the right helpers...)

Hey guys, thanks for your replies
I've tried the programs that were suggested, yet none of them worked. I think there might be a corruption with the file, because every program that i've used for this MPEG-4 file has been unable to proccess. It will encode (or whatever it does) the file for a few seconds then it'll tell me that the file has encoded succesfully, but in reality it wasn't succesfull because nothing has changed. Some programs that i've used (like ImToo MPEG encoder) converts the file for a few seconds that and tells me that the file has failed to convert. I hope that makes sence to you.
Is there anyway that I can simply burn the file onto dvd in the format that its in?? I'm using Nero 7.0 but i cant figure out how burn this file. Any ideas??
