i was wondering if i could convert a 2.35:1 video to a 16:9 one, without making people or other things looked stretched or without clipping any frames. i tried the smart resize filter in virtualdub but i dont think it works good on 2.35:1 movies, because people look like egg heads. any help would be great. thanks.

You need to do two things in virtualdub.

    1. Right-click on the preview frame (by default the right-hand frame) and select 16:9 as the preview mode. This will compensate for tha changes you will then have to make.

    2. Use the resize filter to resize your 2.35 : 1 to suit 16:9 playback. In PAL this is around 446 vertical pixels, in NTSC it is around 372 vertical pixels. Use the 'Expand Frame' section to add the required borders for your format (576 or 480)

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Is the video filling a 2.35:1 frame and you want to letterbox it to 16:9? Or is it already letterboxed and you want to eliminate the bars?

  6. In tmpgenc, select 1:1 VGA as the source, and "Keep aspect ratio 2".
On the settings tab, make sure you have it set to 4:3
