First of all, I'm assuming that the combined data on all the discs will fit on one DVD-R.
I would use TMPGEnc DVD Author. It's cheap, and It'll import video directly from non-copy protected dvd, or dvd's copied to your hard drive, or dvd ready video clips. I would do it like this... copy (extract) your 4 dvd's to your hard drive. Open up TMPGEnc DVD Author, click 'add dvd video', then browse to your disc/folder. You now have 2 options: read chapter breaks, and the option to copy the data to your hard drive (extract the mpg from the dvd and write somewhere). Since you've already copied the discs to your computer, don't copy the data to your hard drive. TMPGEnc will just read it from the video_ts directory. From here, I would add another title (left side of screen) and then repeat the process for each 20 min disc.
Make your menu, then author. If it yells at you that you're exceeding disc capacity, then all 4 won't fit on 1 without shrinking or re-encoding. If it's only slightly over, I would use DVD Shrink and nudge it down to size. If it's a drastic overage, I would re-encode the videos. Have TMPGEnc extract the files to your hard drive (see above), then load them into your video converter, and drop the bitrate. Use a bitrate calc for exact numbers.
Good Luck, -
I agree whole-heartedly with akrako1's suggested method, and just wanted to point out that TMPGEnc DVD Author has a 30 day, fully functional free trial.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Dear akrako1,
I am trying to do the same. Thanks for suggesting TMPG DVD Author.
Please advise what I need to accomplish the below after having used DVDdecrepter to extract and save Video_Ts into my Hard drive:
1. editing/combining DVD videos.
TMPG DA would add title 1/2 separately from each DVD.
(Title 1 - DVD Producer Info; Title 2 - DVD video)
Q* Do I have to join Title 2 -DVD Videos among the DVDs?
or TMPG DA would do it automatically?
2. Menus - TMPG DA ignored the DVD menus (VTS_01_0.VOB) from the directory (note VTS_01_0.VOB in the Video_TS directory has only the Root menu, but none of the sub scene selection menus )
Q* Can/how I use TMPG DA to find/salave the current menus
(both root/scene menus) from those DVDs?
3. my total Title 2 video will be 10 GB after joining.
Q* which video converter would you suggest to reduce it to 1-dvd disc.
Thanks. -
TMPG DVD Author is indeed a very good choice for this task. However, if your DVDs have multiple audio streams or any subtitles, you'll need something else. DVD Shrink can be used to reauthor all those tracks onto one disk but it doesn't offer menu making functions.

DvdReMake Pro will merge your 4 disks in one click (preserving full original disk structure) and will insert a start-up selection menu.
-
Merging 4 DVDs into 1? I am just trying for 2-to-1.
I found the User Guide, but not sure how/when to use DVD Shrink to compress 8GB to 4 GB for SL DVD.
Do I have to export the merged VTS then call DVD Shrink? Or some other ways? -

dvdremake pro would be your best bet if your originals have their own menu. If you're just lumping the 4 clips together, then dvd shrink is your next best FREE option
nevermind i noticed you also wanted a general menu. So yeah tmpg would befine as it would make a geenric menu and lump youjr 4 clips.
But should you need to keep each discs own menus and structure, dvdremake pro is the best way -
Sorry, my DVDReMake only allows to merge 2 DVDs.
Anyway let me proceed with what I have now: to merge 2DVDs of 4.3 GB each into one SL DVD.
After using DVDReMake to merge then export the merged DVD, I have now 8GB files of data on the Hard drive ; however, DVDShrink would not read the files,
msg: "invalid data in VTS_1_0.VOB".
What maybe the problem? -

*i think ilcal is trying something more crazy due to the size of his dvds!! -
demux your 4 dvds to your hardrive into elementary streams using dvddecrypter in ifo mode(stream processing)
in dvd decrypter go to tools, settings, ifo mode and select"chapter informatin- dvd lab" this will export your chapter positions for use later
open dvd lab pro, load your elementary streams and your chapter positions, create your menu and author
there are guides here at videohelp.com to do all this
if you want the subs from your original dvds, rip the subs with subrip and save them as srt subs and you will be able to import them to dvd lab as well
hope it helpsI love it when a plan comes together!
